New blog?!? Let's chat.....

I've now heard from more than one source at the Texas Capitol that Rick Perry is on McCain's short list for VP candidates. I think this would be a horrible mistake for the McCain camp. Rick Perry isn't going to bring any extra votes from anywhere, much less his own state. What will the American public think when they see another governor from the state of Texas on the ballot?? I'm all for change and Perry isn't it.

Any thoughts?

Speaking as a native Texan that lived there from birth to age 20. I must say that Rick Perry doesn't get the credit he deserves. He is much worse than people think he is.

I would put money, hard cash, on the fact that this is just a Washington rumor and will never see fruition. That would be political suicide for McCain AND the republicans unless they are looking for a completely polarized campaign. Maybe they are but I think McCain would best be served by taking senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. She is conservative and she is a woman. Two things that could stand only to help McCain since the republicans are obsessed with this perceived notion of McCain not being far enough to the right.

Republicans are barely holding on to their strongholds and for some reason they are debating about how red McCain truly is. This is just plain stupid. They need to make him appear as middle of the road as possible and just unify behind him if they ever hope to win crossover votes and the presidential election.

This is a clear indicator that McCain is going for a VP with conservative credentials, but Rick Perry? Come on, he is a lameduck politician and everyone knows it. I agree that Hutchison is a good fit for McCain, and serves as diversity to his ticket in that she is a woman. She has a conservative voting record and would help reach out to the "values voters" that McCain has throughout his career alienated. Let's face it, he is a moderate Republican, and for his interest in winning the White House, he needs a conservative Republican that will get these moral issue voters to the polls and vote for him. It just shouldn't be Rick "Bonehead" Perry. He brings nothing to the table.

Kay Bailey would rather be Governor of Texas than VP...she's said it a million times and I believe her. If Texas truly is in play for Democrats this Novemeber, Perry would be an asset. The political value of the VP nominee is generally overvalued outside of their region.
