Obama's "Bitter" Remarks

So by now you've probably all seen the quote that Obama made in reference to small town people at a fund-raiser in San Francisco:

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who are not like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," the senator had said.

The fact that these comments were made in San Francisco frustrate me as much as the comments themselves. It just goes to show that he is willing to pander to an audience.

Can we at least get an apology Senator Obama?

"If I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that," Obama was quoted as saying in an interview with the Winston-Salem (North Carolina) Journal.

It's not so much the way he "worded things" as the entire content of his quote. For a campaign that preaches unity, I would expect at least a simple apology for such divisive remarks.

Thoughts?

What Obama should apologize for is how bowling style. God. To end his follow through with his wrist pointng toward the pins -- truly disgusting.

As for his comments, they made me cringe. But I don't think he needs to apologize. He needs to explain them, and explain them in a much better fashion than he's done so far. My suggestion:

Here's what I meant. The Republicans have nothing to offer American working folks when it comes to providing them good jobs, retirement security, health care, a good education for their children or a clean environment. All they care about is rich folks and their corporate concubines. To win, they wrap themselves in the flag and religion and "values," and say Democrats don't share those values. Well, I'm here to tell the American people this:

Republicans don't share your values. They distort, denigrate and exploit your values. If you value health care for your family, better vote Democrat, because Republicans don't care. If you value a good job and enough wages to take care of your family, better vote Democrat because Republicans don;t care. If you value a good education for your kids, better vote Democrat because Republicans don't care. If you value providing a clean environment for future generations, better vote Democrat because Republicans don't care. If your moral values include loving and caring for one another, instead of dividing us against each other, better vote Democrat because Republicans don't care. And if you value the American flag as a symbol of our nation's principles and not as a political wedge to be figuratively burned to maximize the power of the President, better vote Democrat because Republicand don't care.
